What the heck is Zanshin?

In case anyone is wondering, Zanshin is a Japanese word that is difficult to translate.  It means close to "primal awareness."  It is said that at a moment of intense and dire threat, a person will experience a slowing of time and an acute awareness of everything nearby.  The samurai Musashi wrote in the Book of Five Rings, that this is called "Entering the void."  A zero time lag between what is happening and your reaction to it.  Warriors of the Samurai Era have written that Zanshin is the mindset of survival.  It has also been called,  "Warrior Mind."
